Lung Ultrasound for diagnosis of acute cardiogenic dyspnea in the Emergency Department – a simeu multicenter study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Acute dyspnea is among the most common presentations to the Emergency Department (ED). Discriminating between cardiac and non-cardiac causes of dyspnea can sometimes be challenging. Lung Ultrasound (LUS), integrated with standard clinical evaluation (i.e. history, physical examination, EKG and arterial blood gas iLUS) has emerged as a non-invasive bedside valuable technique for diagnosis of various diseases.

Acute cardiogenic dyspnea in the emergency department: accuracy of lung ultrasound
Patients and methods 70 patients presenting with acute dyspnea have been enrolled. On admission every patient underwent to LUS and chest X-ray (CXR). Ultrasound findings of Interstitial Alveolar Syndrome (IAS), which correlate with an increase in interstitial lung water, were reported. On the results of LUS, the patients were attributed to 2 different diagnostic groups: Group 1: patients with c...
متن کاملDiagnostic accuracy and reproducibility of pleural and lung ultrasound in discriminating cardiogenic causes of acute dyspnea in the emergency department.
Dyspnea is a common symptom in patients admitted to the Emergency Department (ED), and discriminating between cardiogenic and non-cardiogenic dyspnea is often a clinical dilemma. The initial diagnostic work-up may be inaccurate in defining the etiology and the underlying pathophysiology. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and reproducibility of pleural and lung ultras...
متن کاملChest ultrasounds and X-rays compared in patients with acute dyspnea in an Emergency Department
Background Dyspnea is one of the most frequent causes of access to the Emergency Department (ED). A major challenge for the emergency physician lies in differentiating diagnosis between cardiogenic and respiratory dyspnea. Currently, the instrument mainly used for the diagnosis of acute pulmonary disease is a chest X-ray: however, chest ultrasounds (US) are proving their potential in the diagno...
متن کاملDiagnostic performance of multi-organ ultrasound with pocket-sized device in the management of acute dyspnea
BACKGROUND The availability of ultra-miniaturized pocket ultrasound devices (PUD) adds diagnostic power to the clinical examination. Information on accuracy of ultrasound with handheld units in immediate differential diagnosis in emergency department (ED) is poor. The aim of this study is to test the usefulness and accuracy of lung ultrasound (LUS) alone or combined with ultrasound of the heart...
متن کاملThree-view bedside ultrasound for the differentiation of acute respiratory distress syndrome from cardiogenic pulmonary edema.
Bedside ultrasound is being increasingly used by emergency physicians (EPs) for the differentiation of acute dyspnea in critically ill patients. Lung ultrasound is emerging as a highly sensitive tool in diagnosing alveolar interstitial edema with the presence of diffuse “B-lines” arising from the pleural line. However, when used independently, lung ultrasound is unable to differentiate between ...
